L&I Safety & Health Specialist 3
Job Responsibilities
Travel to employers' facilities to perform complex investigations to include accidents, complaints, and referrals.

Train, lead, and perform inspections with other Safety & Health Specialists and Industrial Hygienists.

Critically evaluate the use of protective methods including personal protective equipment, safe work practices, and engineering controls.

Determine employer compliance or non-compliance with WISHA Safety and Health Standards documenting employee exposure along with proposed citations and monetary penalties as appropriate.

Organize, write, and edit comprehensive technical investigative reports which are the basis for safety and health compliance actions.

Write reports documenting facts and information using guidance within the DOSH compliance manual.

Defend citations at both formal and informal appeal hearings.

Education Requirements
Required Qualifications:
To qualify as a Safety & Health Specialist 3 (In-Training) Level classified as SHS2
A Bachelor’s degree from an ABET Accredited Program in Occupational Safety & Health or Safety & Health Management.
-OR-
Bachelor’s degree in a related field AND two years’ experience as a safety & health officer, consultant, inspector, or related experience.
-OR-
Four years’ of full-time journey level experience in one or more of the following industries; construction, manufacturing, agriculture, health/medical, service industry or related field AND two years’ experience as a safety & health officer, consultant, inspector, or related experience.

College-level education will substitute year for year, for up to four years’ of non-safety and health experience. Additional safety and health experience qualifying experience will substitute year for year for education.

To qualify as a Safety & Health Specialist 3, the following is required:
Experience in construction trades, or industries that have a higher than average experience factor.
Three years’ as a Labor & Industries Safety & health Specialist or Industrial Hygienist.
-OR-
A Bachelor’s degree AND three years’ of experience as a safety & health officer, consultant, inspector, or related experience.
-OR-
Four years’ of full-time journey level experience in one or more of the following industries; construction, manufacturing, agriculture, health/medical, service industry or related field AND three years’ experience as a safety & health officer, consultant, inspector, or related experience.

College-level education will substitute year for year, for up to four years’ of non-safety and health experience. Additional safety and health experience qualifying experience will substitute year for year for education.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications:
Certified Safety Professional.

The position is bilingual preferred. If candidate is bilingual, and successfully completes HR bilingual testing, the candidate will communicate with internal and external customers in both English and their bilingual language.
